In the book of Judges chapter 9 verses 8 to 13 there is this beautiful story about the olive, fig and vine trees which refused to be made king of the trees when asked to because they wanted to stick with the purpose for which God created them and fulfill their destiny.
Like the trees in the above Bible passage, each human being is born with a mission to fulfill on earth, and that mission is The Untold Story of your life. It will remain so if you fail to give birth to it. Your job is to discover what you were born to become and live up to it. To help you with a road-map to discover and actualize your destiny I will be using the noun FULFILLMENT.
1. F – Find out what you have passion for and give it your maximum attention. George Hala said, “Nobody who ever gave his best regretted it.” The book of Ecclesiastes chapter 9 verse 10A also says, “Whatsoever your hand finds to do, do it with your might;...”
2. U – Understand the voice of the crowd. There are those who will encourage you and those who will discourage you. Your duty is to choose to listen to the voice of those who believe you can achieve your dreams and fulfill your destiny. Remember it is easy to get to the top after you get through the crowd at the bottom. I will also refer you to the story of Joseph in the book of Genesis chapter 37 verses 5 to 8.
3. L – Leave your comfort zone and go out of the garage because a parked car like a life which is inactive is useless. That car is meant for the road and your life is also meant for the journey to destiny. Stop studying your theories and put them to test because it is the result of any theory that attracts the attention of the world. Ralph Waldo Emerson said. “Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” So friends, make that unusual top class result, come up with that invention, publish that best selling book and release that music album. Just do something positive with your life because you were created in the image of the creator of the universe, and you can do what you were born to do.
4 . F – Forget your past failures because they will become setbacks. Rather allow the prospect of success to drive you on. If I may ask, will your constant remembrance of the mistakes you made or the failures you have had change the past? I guess the answer is NO, so why dwell on something you can’t change when you have a future to impact positively. Beverly Sills said, “You may be disappointed if you fail, but you are doomed if you don’t try.” The book of Micah chapter 7 verse 8B also has some advice on how our attitude should be to failure. It says, “…when I fall, I shall rise…” Always have that rising mentality whenever you fall down.
5. I – Interact with a positive mentor because you will learn from his or her mistakes and success. A mentor is experienced and will be able to guide you through your journey by offering useful advice to enable you navigate successfully to your destination. An African proverb says, “What an old man sees sitting down, a young person can’t see even if he climbs up,” while Donovan Bailey said, “Everybody needs a mentor.”
6. L – Look at the big picture. Will the achievement of your goal in life going to be more satisfying and fulfilling than abandoning it? Remember you have a choice to either settle for less or move on to bigger and higher things. Ann Landers said, “Nobody gets to live life backward. Look ahead that is where is your future lies.” In Genesis chapter 13 verses 8 to 11 there is this interesting story of Abram and Lot. When Abram asked Lot to make a choice of where he wants to settle, verse 10 reads, “And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan…” The question I want to ask is: when you lift up your eyes you are supposed to see upwards, but in this case Lot saw all the plain of Jordan which were definitely downwards. He failed to see the big picture and you must not be like him.
7. M – Maintain a lifestyle of integrity. Don’t live a lie by pretending to be what you are not as it will put pressure on you to meet up to the show you are putting up. In addition, don’t cheat or cut corners to achieve your dream especially in this age of high rate of examination malpractice and other forms of fraudulent activities by young people. Jesus said in John 14 verse 30, “Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world comes, and has nothing in me.” Let that be your testimony too, that you don’t have any skeletons in your closet.
8. E – Embrace your creator because He is the one who wrote the script of your life and only He can interpret it for you. Remember, without God you can do nothing (John chapter 15 verse 5). Isaac Singer said, “Life is God’s novel, let Him write it.” My friends, are you born again? If your answer is NO, why not repent right now.
9. N – Never for once think of giving up no matter how difficult things may be. Richard Nixon said, “A man is not finished when he is defeated. He is finished when he quits.”
10. T – Take one day at a time. Don’t be in a hurry and don’t be lazy. Just make sure you make steady progress each day. John Wooden said, “Don’t measure yourself by what you have accomplished, but by what you should have accomplished with your ability.”
In conclusion, I want to urge you not to allow your dreams to be THE UNTOLD STORY. Don’t meet your maker without fulfilling the purpose for which you were created. Go and conquer your world.
